Lockdown Life Must Have – A Coffee Station in your Kitchen

Published by Basalat on

DeLonghi Dedica

Welcome back all! What have we been up to this new year?? We have been roaming. Roaming around. A lot. Bedroom to kitchen, to basement back to kitchen and then back to bedroom, so exciting. If you’re like us, and roaming around your house, working from home, or home with the kids, then you’ve got to have a spot for a sweet coffee station. Hey even my introvert husband is missing the office communal kitchen.

Our coffee bar hasn’t changed much over the years, but an update to my very first blog post was due. (With improved photography skills). That post was before we were hit with a pandemic, suffice to say this past year our coffee station has gotten A LOT of use.

I’ll be going into what our essentials are, and surprisingly, you don’t need a lot of things to set up a functional and pretty coffee station at home. Also we have not one but TWO coffee stations. One in our kitchen and the other in the basement. I’ll get into the basement one in a future post, stay tuned!

Kitchen Setup

Space

We have our coffee station set up on a sideboard, (as to not use valuable counterspace), that is actually adjacent to the kitchen. The top of the sideboard before was merely decorative, and by repurposing it, we’ve made it more functional but still pretty to look at.

Our sideboard is a traditional piece that goes with the rest of our home. To save the counter from any spills, I’ve added this marble pastry slab (similar) which also adds some brightness to the space. Plus always look for ways to define spaces, its easier to put things back when you know there’s a specific spot.

Coffee Machine

Can’t really have a coffee station without, well a coffee machine. We have the De’longhi Dedica, and have had no issues at all. (To be honest I wouldn’t really know, only my husband is the barista around here, and he approves). We wanted something that was space saving, and this one is only 6 inches wide. The stainless steel espresso mugs (linked similar) are functional yet add a pretty touch.

Mug Display

As mentioned the marble slab on our sideboard, not only protects the counter, but also defines the workspace. It’s also large enough to display our most used/loved mugs. The different size mugs gives us options as to what we prefer that day.

The stainless steal container keeps the coffee fresh and sealed, and the coffee/dessert gold spoons give it a little decorative touch. Oh apparently their useful too. Again, it’s very practical to have your most used items on display/easy to grab spots.

The stainless steel milk pitcher (similar) is also useful when frothing milk. Mind. Blown.

Accessories

In the drawer I keep some of the other coffee essentials. The filter holder comes with the machine, the espresso tamper (the metal stamp looking thing) my husband bought separately. Apparently you need it.

Can I just take a moment and talk about these commercial/give me a real barista café vibe sugar packages (similar). Pure decorative for me, as I don’t take sugar in my coffee, but a girl can admire.

Finishing Touches

Because our coffee station is kind of in the kitchen/open kitchen dinette area, to make it feel not so kitchen-y, I’ve added a few other things. This Tivoli Audio radio gives such a cool nostalgic nuance, and the sound quality is excellent.

This lamp was another love at first sight purchase. Sweet little thing isn’t it. I’ve placed it on top of the Laduree recipes book. Don’t ask, I was feeling nostalgic about a trip to Paris.

Lastly this art! As it goes for most of the art in our house, it was a must- bring-at-home-right-now purchase. It’s a piece we purchased locally from Accents from Living, you can source through Caledon Art I believe. The size, the colors and the metallic birds, that change colors depending on the light, so so perfect!

The picture light (super budget find) is hung directly to the frame. I didn’t know picture lights could do that.

That’s our kitchen coffee station, I hope you found some of my ideas inspiring! Stay tuned, as I mentioned, for the basement coffee bar. As really right now you can’t have enough spots to escape to for a little while, or at least in my case eye candy/admire. Simple things for me. Stay safe friends!
