Creating a Stylish Teen Bedroom that’s Cozy & Functional
I’m so excited to be sharing my daughter’s teen bedroom makeover!! It’s been so much fun to be taking part in the one room challenge. It was my first time participating in and I LOVED it.
To remind everyone, this is the before of the room. I did end up keeping the same layout. We tried many different layouts and this was the best layout to maximize the square footage.

Design Board
Next, here’s the refresher on the design board that I created. I stuck to pretty much everything in the plans, except for the rectangular mirror (ended up going with round to break up the straight lines). Read Teen Bedroom Makeover Week 2 for the details on the design board.

And without further ado here’s the after of the teen bedroom makeover! Now get ready for less talking and more showing as this post is going to be full of pics.
Details
The room came together definitely more colorful than what Zayna had envisioned. However, with muted colours and a pop of gold, I think it works really well!

Headboard
The headboard (similar) was such a lucky find, and along with the art set the tone for the entire room. The color is a teal-y blue, it’s rather unique. We are in LOVE with how it goes so perfectly with everything.

Dressing Table
The dressing table (similar) is old and I was glad we were able to repurpose it. However, lucite handles (similar) with a touch of gold gave it a quick update. The mirror is from West Elm (similar), with the same touches of acrylic and gold, just lovely!

Closet Door
We also ended up painting the closet door, because well I have a million and one testers from Benjamin Moore that were going to waste, (the colour here is Gentleman’s Gray). I was initially going to use this dark colour for the accent wall, but once we received the headboard with that unique colour of blue/green/gray, I ended up going with the blush wall instead.

Window Treatment
As for drapes for the room, well the gold rings that go with this gold rod (also from CB2) is on backorder. So for now the sheers and drapes are hung as is. Similar brass rod.
The Art
The art, by Oliver Gal, was one my daughter and I saw online and it was love at first sight. It pretty much was the jumping off point for her room. However it was an ordeal to purchase it, especially to have it shipped to Canada, and we finally found it on HOUZZ. I’ve linked a similar Oliver Gal Art, in terms of colors.
Lighting
What can I say other then check out this beauty from CB2. It tied the gold and acrylic theme for the room, however these are REAL quartz.
Media Wall
The other side of the room, we have Zayna’s gaming wall and desk. I know I’ve griped about having to deal with a gaming console, tv etc, but I think my husband and I have come up with a pretty creative solution with the shelving and letter Z accent wall. I also covered my daughter’s PlayStation with a marble drawer liner, and it no longer is an eye sore!
A little reading chair fit perfectly in this space and added a pop of the brass/gold accent that’s throughout the room.

Desk
No teen room could possibly be complete without a desk. The desk is the Ikea Besta and I added some brass handles, similar handles, to give the desk a little somethin’ somethin’.

HomeSense was closed for majority of this makeover, and then when it did open they were empty shelves. I pretty much made do with accessories I had at home. But I think overall it turned out ok, and I can always add some finishing touches later.

Phew! Done and done! The one room challenge was such a fun event to be part of! I enjoyed meeting all the other participants and following along in their journey. Would I do this again? HECK ya, but hopefully not during a pandemic! Till next time, thanks for making it this far, and stay safe.

Hi there. It’s actually called cove molding. You’ll find it where the quarter round etc is, it has a flat back so lays flush to the wall. It was super cheap and easy to just nail into the wall and then painted. Let me know if you have any other questions!

What paint color is the pink? My daughter got wide eyed when I showed it to her as we are trying to figure out what color to paint her “big girl room” haha. I searched through the post but couldn’t find it 🤦♀️ Lol

Hi Priscilla,. It’s actually just called cover molding. You’ll find it where the the quarter round is at Home Depot, it has a flat back so lays flush to the wall. It was really easy to use you just nail it into the wall and then paint it, good luck!

Hi there thank you!! The walls are Cement Gray – it’s just a hint of purple more like neutral gray with purple undertones. And the pink is called Victoriana 1263 – muted gray pink, very livable! Both colors are Benjamin Moore. Please let me know how it goes so exciting and good luck!

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. They are approx 10.5 inches appart from the bottom of one molding to the top of the other. So the space in between. Hope that makes sense, and let me know ifyou have any other questions.

Hi There! This room is absolutely beautiful! My teenage daughter loves it, and we would love to create something very similar! Couple of questions, What brackets did you use to hang the picture and mirror on the accent wall? Was it as simple as using a wire backing? TIA.

No we left it like that. If you’d like you can add me on instagram and I can send you a close up shot. But we literally slapped it on with some nails and painted it. Only added wood filler between the seams.
