Wall Organization
After you’ve planned your floorspace, the next step is to take a look at those items that don’t necessarily belong on the floor and can be hung. Using wall space to organize, not only looks good, but clears up valuable real-estate of your gym. Let’s get into some simple tips.
Planning
- Take inventory of your smaller home gym items, and also create a nice to have items list. (Plan for growth).
- Sort items by the following:
- Can be hung
- Stored on shelves
- General purpose
- Take a look at your wall space, and plan your organizer accordingly. Utilizing but not limited to the following (this is what worked for our home gym):
- Pegboards
- Shelving
- Wall Hooks
- Brackets
Have Fun with Paint
In our home gym, we turned the back wall into a utility center. We designed and painted a unique retro vibe accent wall to further define the area, and create a fun spot for all the items!
Moreover, we also got creative with some brackets that were lying around (read on), to hang up our rollers. Think of how you could define your own space and make it your own.
Let’s get into the specifics.
Pegboards

The hardworking pegboard is a must have for home gym organization. Not only for storing smaller items, it also gives your gym that industrial fitness center vibe. I always keep in mind aesthetics! Furthermore, you can use magnets to hang your printed workout papers, which is usually a big source of clutter.
The following items are on our Wall Control Metal Pegboard, customize to what your needs are.
- Gold Pegboard Baskets Set (similar) – An ideal spot for small items. We use ours to store our workout gloves, knee braces etc.
- Pegs – To hang resistance bands or headphones.
- Round Interval Timer – Amazing to use during interval work, this is actually a kitchen timer but does the job
- Magnetic Pen Holder (similar) – Store small knick knacks
- Magnetic List Pad (similar) – Spot to jot workout notes
- Round Colored Magnets – Super handy to hang workout sheets
Shelves for Accessories
Sources: White Towels | Felt Display Board | LCD Jumbo Clock | Floating Shelves (similar)
Shelves can be used to display décor and store gym accessories. They also give your gym a personalized touch. We have 4 family members using this gym on a daily basis, and having a well stocked accessory area is essential, much like a fitness center. The following items are on our shelves.
- Floating Shelves – I don’t trust no bracket floating shelves, so added some economical shelf brackets to the shelves for added support.
- White towels – Purchased them in bulk. Mine have held up great after many washes. Also, I added a basket on the floor to throw dirty towels in.
- LCD Jumbo Clock – Convenient when working out and need to glance at the time
- Felt Display Board– For words of motivation of course!
- Water bottles – Backup for those days you forget your reusable water bottle.
Shelf Brackets
A recent new addition to our home gym organization are wall shelf brackets, to store our foam rollers and yoga mat. We actually had shelf brackets lying around, hence why they’re missed match. But they work! DIY and be creative.

When using flat brackets, (like the black ones below) just turn the edges up so your foam roller/mat doesn’t roll off the bracket.
The bottom silver bracket (similar) work the best in my opinion, but measure them to your foam roller.

I also contemplated getting this Wall Mount Yoga Mat Foam Roller and Towel Rack, it’s a great budget friendly option as well!
Hooks
Hooks are truly versatile, hang them around the gym for multipurpose uses. Additionally, you can even hang a towel during workouts (side note, have a small basket to serve as a laundry basket for dirty towels).
- Suspension band is mounted directly to the wall via another ceiling/wall hook. Ours came with the suspension hook (linked).
- Jump Rope hung on the hook.
That’s the basics of our home gym wall organization. Have fun be creative and practical. For me visually appealing and clutter free space makes it easier to get a workout in!
Stay tuned for the final part of this Home Gym Organization series – Media Organization. Stay safe friends!
